A Catastrophe
Affected communities in Guimaras, especially the fishermen are now facing a huge struggle. Marine resources have been greatly affected by the oil spill. These are most of the resources that the communities along the vicinity of the effected area cling on to for a living. Among the affected marine resources are the corals, dolphins, and turtles.

Aside from marine life, the health of every resident in the affected area is at risk. According to the Regional Disaster Coordinating Council or RDCC, 1,070 residents are recorded to have oil spill-related diseases and symptoms. And worse, Department of Health or DOH said that they have already recorded 2 deaths due to the oil spill.
This situation needs an immediate response from the government and from the people involved. If this will not be remedied at the most immediate time, the situation will be worsen.
A coastal clean up is still on going and from the records, 1,600 residents have been helping.
Detainees from different prisons have also offered their help. They donated their hair for the clean up drive. But according to Department of Science and Technology or DOST, they should not use hair, instead, use coconut husks, rice straw, feathers and corn cobs/stalks for the absorption of the oil.
Science-based response are also being conducted to secure the island.
All possible remedies should already be done for if not, many will suffer.
